Writing efficiently

Although geared more towards academic writers, Nathaniel Lambert has an excellent blog postthat provides useful tips to all writers for making their writing process more efficient.

Here are three key points that are worth highlighting. Using headings as a basic outline structure helps us work with a focus on specific themes. When in doubt because of overlapping concepts, use more headings. Another useful tip is to have a diagram or picture that depicts the basic outline of our manuscript. This could be a mind map, or a concept model which provides us with a rough guideline of our main argument/plot/scientific process. Finally, some of us have a tendency of spending more time than necessary in the introductory parts of the manuscript. We might lose our audience with long introductions. The best thing to do is to get to the point as quickly as possible in the introduction section.
